6 HOME WI-FI SAFETY STEPS
Step 1 :
Be sure to change the
administrator login and password of your Wi-Fi network access point/ router to
a combination that only you know.
Step 2 :
Give your network
name (often called SSID) something unique and easily identifiable, but make
sure that the name does not contain any personal information. Hide your network
name as an additional safety measure.
Step 3 :
Encrypt your
communications by enabling the highest security encryption i.e. Wi-Fi
Protective Access Version 2/ WPA2 which requires the use of a password before
users can access your Wi-Fi network.
Step 4 :
Ensure that the user
password to your Wi-Fi network is different from that used for the access
point/ router network administrator.
Step 5 :
Use a password that
is difficult to guess, with at least 20 characters long, and change it often.
Step 6 :
Always
monitor who is using your Wi-Fi network. As the network administrator you may
also determine the list of computers (through its MAC address) that can access
your network.
